Cake and Pie in Review

If you haven’t yet, be sure to “like” Chew On It: Beard vs. Food on Facebook and follow me on Twitter!

I have a big sweet tooth, but I typically don’t indulge in desserts.  This tour of cakes and pies from local restaurants was sinfully fantastic and let me try a lot of items that I normally wouldn’t order.  There weren’t too many desserts that I didn’t love, but I wanted to pick my favorites from all of the different types we tried.  The following are in no particular order.

Apple Pie – Apple Crumb, Icing On the Lake; Apple Cheese, Russ’ Dinor; Apple Caramel Pecan, JJ’s Retro Eatery; Apple Crisp, Summer House Café.

Berry Pie - Raspberry, Pie in the Sky Café; Peach Blackberry, Lorie’s Wildridge Restaurant;

Pumpkin Pie - Pumpkin Apple, Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe; Pumpkin Custard, Pie in the Sky Café; Sweet Potato, Lorie’s Wildridge Restaurant.

Cream Pie – Peanut Butter, Icing On the Lake; Three-layer Chocolate Mint, Lorie’s Wildridge Restaurant; Peanut ButterSummer House Café.

Misc. Pie - Mocha Hazelnut Tart, 1201 Kitchen; Bourbon Pecan, Pie in the Sky Café; Concord Grape, Lorie’s Wildridge Restaurant.

Cheesecake – Pumpkin, JJ’s Retro Eatery; Lemon Crumble, Summer House Café.

Cake – Cookies and Cream Cupcake, Nutella Cupcake, Icing On the Lake; Brown Butter Pumpkin, 1201 Kitchen; Peppermint Patty, Summer House Café.

Seriously, instead of your New Year’s Resolution being to work out more, make it a resolution to visit these places and get some food, especially dessert. Thank you to everyone who made this tour as amazing as it was. You put so much hard work and creativity into your desserts and Amanda and I appreciate them all.

Next week will start my tour of comfort foods so keep sending me your recommendations to or to the Beard Vs. Food Facebook.  Remember to come back and vote as well.
