Bacon shortage predicted. Now what?

For those of you who crave nitrates, there is trouble a’brewing next year. According to the Huffington Post, Great Britain is facing a bacon shortage next year and it could be just a matter of time before it becomes global.

The source of the story comes from the U.K. Pig Association, which says that the nation’s pig farmers are cutting back on herd size thanks to a jump in pig feed costs, because of the increase in grain prices, loss of maize and soy crops in the wake of the extreme heat and drought of the past year.

Of course, the release goes on to say that consumers are being urged to show their support by enlisting in the Save our Bacon campaign launched by the industry, and buying industry approved pork products to send a “strong message” to grocers.

So is it time for you to start stockpiling sausage, bacon and the “other” white meat in your freezer? You decide.
